Ultra Massive Sequence Platform

This platform is endowed with new equipment for sequencing of which there’s only another one at M.I.T. The equipment and the related protocols allow sequencing activity at a speed which is one or two orders of quantity higher than the normal one.

This ability favours the development of research partnerships of with public and private entities who need to sequence and study million bases in short time and at reasonable costs.

The ultra-massive sequence platform is based on a concept recently introduced by 454 Corp. This approach allows the analysis of thousands of DNA fragments in parallel through the use of the pyrosequencing technique applied to micro-spheres on which DNA clonal fragments, obtained through micelle PCR, are present.

Scientific Director

Dr Gianluca De Bellis, scientific Coordinator of the Platform, graduated in Chemistry from the State University in Milan. He sits on the board of directors of ITB-CNR and on the board of directors of the Interdisciplinary Centre for bimolecular Studies and Industrial applications of the University of Milan (Centre of Excellence) and Coordinator of the Ultra-massive Sequence Platform of the Center for bimolecular Interdisciplinary Studies and Industrial applications of the University of Milan. He is a former contract professor of Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Physics - Catholic University (Brescia) and at the moment he is contract Professor of Molecular Biology at the Polytechnic of Milan.
